CHS Teaching Laboratories Usage Regulations

1. Purpose

To provide guidance for the use of laboratory resources, services, and facilities.

2. Scope

Applicable to all individuals within the VinUni Community, which includes students, faculty, teaching assistants, staff, researchers, affiliates, visitors, and anyone during their activities in laboratory spaces of the Teaching Labs, including the Biomedicine Lab (Yersin Lab), the Chemistry Lab (Mendeleev Lab), the Virtual Lab, and the Anatomy Lab (Vesalius Lab).

3. Regulation Principles

The following regulation principles apply:

  • Prioritize the safety of students, laboratory personnel, the environment, and the public.
  • Adhere to internal policies, national and international laws and regulations governing laboratory activities.
  • Promote efficient resource utilization, including laboratory facilities, equipment, and materials, technical and safety support staff.

4. Policy Statements

The regulations for using the Biomedicine, Chemistry, and Virtual teaching laboratories.

  • Wear appropriate attire as regulated and personal protective equipment when performing experiments, following the instructions of the instructors and teaching assistants. Entrance to the lab is only allowed when there are scheduled lessons according to the timetable or predetermined schedules.
  • To be allowed to perform experiments in the labs, laboratory safety training and a “Control of Substances Hazardous to Health” (COSHH) form must be completed beforehand per request.
  • Always check the conditions of equipment before usage. Immediately stop using it and notify the instructors or teaching assistants if encounter any problems. Do not arbitrarily fix the equipment.
  • Ensure to understand safe usage when handling any chemicals or equipment. Do not move the equipment, chemicals, and other properties in the labs outside without permission.
  • Do not write or mark directly on the laboratory equipment, anatomy models, equipment, and other properties in the labs.
  • Immediately notify the instructors or teaching assistants when discovering accidents, injuries, property damage, or potential risks in the lab. Individuals who cause damage must compensate for the damage according to the regulations of the university.
  • Ensure that the working space is always clean and tidy. Always wash your hands before entering and leaving the lab; properly clean and return glassware and tools after use.
  • Do not eat, drink, or smoke in the lab. Do not carry weapons or flammable or explosive materials into the laboratory.
  • Everyone in the lab must be responsible for strictly adhering to these regulations and following the instructions from the Lab Manager.

Anatomy Laboratory regulations

  • Entrance to the lab is only allowed when there are scheduled lessons according to the timetable or predetermined schedules. Wear a lab coat as regulated. During scheduled self-learning hours, students are required to sign-in and sign-out in the logbook.
  • Always check the conditions of anatomical models and equipment before usage. Please immediately stop using it and notify the instructors or teaching assistants if encounter any problems. Do not arbitrarily fix the equipment.
  • Do not write or mark directly on the lab equipment, anatomical models, tools, and other properties in the labs.
  • It is strictly forbidden to place any items on the surface of the Pirogov anatomy table. Personnel using the table are responsible for shutting down the machine and cleaning its surface properly using the available soft cloth. Do not use any liquid to clean the machine.
  • It is a requirement to wear gloves already provided at the Lab when using plastinated cadaver models. The preservation cabinet for the plastinated cadavers should always be closed to maintain its internal environment. It is also strictly prohibited to change the original shape of these models.
  • It is strictly forbidden to take pictures of the plastinated cadavers and publish these images online. The university will take appropriate action upon discovery of a violation of this regulation.
  • Immediately notify the instructors or teaching assistants when discovering accidents, injuries, property damage, or potential risks in the lab. Individuals who cause damage must compensate for the damage according to the regulations of the university.
  • Ensure that the working space is always clean and tidy. Return the equipment and anatomical models to their original specifications after use.
  • Do not eat, drink, or smoke in the labs. Do not carry weapons or inflammable materials into the labs.
  • Everyone in the lab must be responsible for strictly adhering to these regulations and following the instructions from the Lab Manager.

5. Roles and Responsibilities

Department Responsibilities
Teaching Lab CHS ·         Instruct, explain, and monitor the adherence to regulations during all activities in the laboratory area.

·         Provide training on “Safety procedures in the laboratory” for students and other relevant laboratory personnel.

Faculty, instructors, and teaching assistants ·        Support and monitor the compliance of students with regulations during activities in the laboratory area.
Students ·        Adhere to policies and regulations as instructed.
