OASIS Framework

I. Course Descriptions

Course overview:

OASIS, which stands for Orientation, Advising, Skills, Identity & Diversity, and Spirit of Pay it Forward, is an integral, non-credit-bearing mandatory component of the Co-curriculum Program and plays an important role as one of the graduation criteria.

OASIS is a distinctive signature program of VinUni that holds a registered trademark. Its primary objective is to cultivate a self-leadership mindset and equip students with essential skills, facilitating their transformation from high school students into effective university scholars, responsible global citizens, and be ready for future career. OASIS is implemented in the first 4 years of bachelor’s degree to ensure there is enough time for students to reflect and practice their own self-leadership development, especially in developing essential qualities for work and life, including self-confidence, self-esteem, self-determination, and self-control.

OASIS comprises five key education blocks:

  1. Orientation: This block aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the nature, value, and requirements of a university education. As part of this block, all students are obligated to annually take the Code of Conduct and Academic Integrity Test, with assessment results graded on a pass/fail basis.
  2. Advising: The objective of this block is to assist students in successfully navigating their university learning journey, addressing both academic and career matters. No formal assessment is required but submission of IDP is mandatory.

Refer to Student Advising Framework

  1. Skills: This block offers additional benefits to VinUni students, providing them with a self-learning platform and a series of structured micro learning skills workshops, organized on-demand to prepare them for college and career readiness.

SAM will arrange skill-specific workshops (online or offline) based on the needs and contemporary trends. Students are strongly encouraged to attend the workshops.

Career Readiness Checkpoint events are organized by CAID, where students will meet and interview with the industry mentors and/or career advisors. Career readiness skills will be checked, and feedback will be provided to students by mentors and/or advisors. It is mandatory for all students to create the Pre-Graduation CV, submit to and be acknowledged by Career Advisor 6 months before graduation.

  1. Identity & Diversity: Building an identity for VinUni Students based on the core values of VinUni. VinUni students embody empathy, exceptional capability, creativity, an entrepreneurial spirit, and leadership mindset throughout their journey from the moment they enter the university, through interactive courses and extracurricular activities.
  2. Spirit of Pay it Forward:

This component represents a unique experiential learning opportunity that integrates students’ academic studies with community-based projects, fostering a sense of responsibility as global citizens committed to unpaid volunteer work and the “pay it forward” spirit. Every student is expected to complete 45 hours of community service volunteering throughout their academic journey. These projects can be initiated by VinUni students, the Lead Faculty of Community Service Learning (CSL), or by any individuals and organizations within or beyond VinUni.

Students are required to document their service hours on Student Success, along with a service report that is validated by designated personnel responsible for this task.
